Cacao Ceremony by Gonca Gürses van Herpen

No prior experience is needed, everyone is welcome!

A Sacred Celebration of Summer, Sound & Togetherness in the Heart

As we enter the fullness of summer, we gather to celebrate life, light, and connection — honouring the warmth, vitality, and abundance that this season brings. This evening is an invitation to slow down, open the heart, and reconnect with yourself and others through ceremonial cacao, sacred sound, and music.

Immersed in the warmth of ceremonial cacao — a heart-opening, non-psychoactive plant — and the resonance of healing sound, we journey inward while embracing the joyful energy of summer. The ceremony offers space to release tension, nourish the spirit, and reconnect with what truly brings aliveness and inspiration.

Through the healing sound & cacao ceremony, I weave overtone singing and shamanic styles, creating a grounding and spacious field for inner connection, openness, and renewal. From stillness, music naturally unfolds.

I will then share seasonal and summer-inspired songs, allowing my artistic expression as a professional opera singer to flow into this celebration of light and life — offering music that inspires joy, freedom, presence, and heartfelt connection.

We close the evening by inviting everyone to join in a familiar, simple song together — a shared moment of warmth, gratitude, celebration, and community under the energy of summer.

The evening includes:

  • Live concert of seasonal & summer-inspired songs

  • Heart-opening cacao ceremony (non-psychoactive)

  • Healing sound journey with voice and sacred instruments

  • Singing together to celebrate the summer season

This evening is an invitation to connect with the expansive energy of summer — a season symbolising vitality, growth, creativity, openness, and joy — and to embrace the beauty of being fully present in life.

A night of ceremony and celebration, of sound and connection, of reflection, joy, and summer magic.

History of Cacao

With its 4000 years of history, cacao is an ancient plant used in important ceremonies in Central and South America. The Mayans mixed the ground cacao beans with water and poured it from one vessel to another to consume it as a thick foamy ceremonial drink, called “ka’kau” or “chokola”. In Latin, the cacao tree is called Theobroma cacao, meaning “Food of the Gods”.

What is Ceremonial Cacao?

Ceremonial cacao is 100% raw, preserving its nutritional benefits. Unlike processed cacao, it retains its value, making it a superfood that supports physical, emotional, and mental health. Cultivated with intention and respect, it honors fair trade and the ecosystem.

Benefits of Cacao

Raw cacao, which has been used ceremonially for 4000 years, gives people energy, strength, and also makes people happy.
